The 2026 Reality

IT is changing faster than most NZ businesses realise.

The businesses that thrive in the next three years will be the ones that made the move now — before their competitors did. Here's what's actually happening, and what it means for you.

"The window to differentiate as an AI-savvy partner in the NZ SME market is right now — before the larger players commoditise it."
— MSP Industry Analysis, 2026
❌ Yesterday's IT
  • Call us when something breaks
  • Fix it and charge by the hour
  • Manual monitoring and patching

How we work

Predictable. Accountable. Human.

We've evolved beyond "IT support." We use AI-powered monitoring to catch issues before they affect your business, automation to eliminate repetitive tasks, and outcome-based reviews to keep technology aligned with your goals.

When something needs attention, you talk to someone who already knows your environment — not a call centre, not a chatbot, not a ticket queue. Real people in Auckland who take full ownership of your outcomes.

Businesses using AI tools report saving an average of 2–3 hours per employee per day on repetitive tasks like email drafting, data entry and report generation.

AI & Data Security
Not all AI tools handle your data safely. We help you choose and configure AI that keeps your business data private — especially critical for healthcare, legal and finance.

Start Small, Scale Smart
You don't need to overhaul your whole business. The best AI wins start with one process — identifying your highest-value use case and proving it works before scaling.

HomeFamily ConnectionFamily Security

Keep your kids safe online — without the stress.

Take control of your family's internet in one simple app. With OceanNET Family Fibre + Plume HomePass, harmful content, screen time and device rules are all managed at the network level — not per device.

Child safely using tablet
Powered by Plume HomePass

Parental controls that actually work.

Unlike device-level parental controls that can be bypassed, Plume HomePass works at the network level — meaning rules apply to every device in your home, automatically, the moment it connects to your Wi-Fi.

Set healthy screen time limitsDecide when each child can go online — and when it's time for bed. Schedules are customised per child, per device, per day of the week.
🛡️
Block harmful content automaticallyAI-powered content filtering blocks adult content, graphic material and age-inappropriate websites before they reach your children's screens.
🔒
Protect from online scams & threatsShields your entire household from phishing attacks, malicious websites and cyber threats — even when kids are browsing independently.
👤
Custom profiles per childCreate individual rules for each child based on their age and needs. Rules that work for a 9-year-old won't be the same as those for a teenager.

What is VOIP?

Your phone, explained simply.

Whether you've had a landline for decades or you're brand new to this — here's everything you need to know about VOIP in plain, everyday language.

📞

What is VOIP?

VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol — but don't let that put you off. All it means is that your phone calls travel over your internet connection instead of through old copper telephone wires.

Think of it like this: just as you might video-call a family member over the internet, VOIP lets you make regular voice calls the same way. You still use a normal phone handset — it just plugs into a different socket (or into your router).

🔌

Will it work with my existing phone?

Yes, in most cases. Your standard home telephone handset can be connected to a VOIP adapter (a small plug-in device we provide). Once set up, you use your phone exactly as you always have — pick up, dial, talk.

There is no new handset to learn. No complicated setup. It works just like your old phone, because it is your old phone.

🔢

Can I keep my phone number?

Absolutely. We can transfer (or "port") your existing home phone number to your new VOIP plan. This usually takes 3–5 business days, and during that time your old number keeps working normally.

You can also choose a brand new local NZ number if you prefer a fresh start.

⚠️

Important: When the internet goes down, so does the phone

This is the most important thing to understand about VOIP. Because your home phone now works over the internet, if your internet connection goes down, your home phone will also stop working — just like how you can't send an email without internet.

This is different from an old copper landline, which worked even during power cuts.

What this means for you:

  • If your internet is down, your home VOIP phone will not have a dial tone
  • During an internet outage, you can still use a mobile phone to make calls
  • If you rely heavily on your home phone for emergencies, we strongly recommend keeping a charged mobile phone as a backup
  • We offer a 4G backup internet add-on that keeps your connection (and phone) running if your fibre has an issue

By signing up for a Home VOIP plan, you acknowledge that your phone service depends on your active internet connection. OceanNET is not liable for loss of phone service during internet outages. We recommend all VOIP customers keep a mobile phone charged and accessible at all times.

💰

Is it cheaper than a traditional landline?

Yes — significantly. Traditional Spark or Chorus line rental for a landline can cost $40–$50/month or more before you've made a single call. Our VOIP plans start from just $15/month with 200 minutes included, or $25/month for unlimited NZ landline calls.

Calls to NZ mobile numbers are also included in the Voice Plus and Voice Max plans — which most traditional landline plans charge extra for.

🇳🇿

Will it affect my 111 (Emergency) calls?

VOIP services in New Zealand are able to connect to 111 (Police, Fire, Ambulance). However, because the call travels over the internet, your location may not be automatically identified the way it can be from a traditional landline or a mobile phone.

If you call 111 from a VOIP number, always clearly state your address and location at the start of the call. Do not rely on the operator to already know where you are.

  • 1 Local NZ Number

⚠️ Please Read: VOIP phone service requires an active OceanNET fibre broadband connection. If your internet goes down, your home VOIP phone will also be unavailable. We strongly recommend keeping a charged mobile phone as a backup. Number porting takes 3–5 business days. 111 emergency calls are supported, but you must always state your address when calling. All prices are exclusive of GST.

HomeServicesMaintenance & Monitoring

Maintenance that prevents problems, not just fixes them.

Reactive IT support is expensive and disruptive. Our preventative maintenance and monitoring programme keeps your systems healthy, your software patched and your team productive — before issues arise.

IT maintenance
Maintenance & Monitoring

Consistent maintenance. Fewer surprises.

Most IT failures are predictable. Disk drives fill up. Software becomes outdated. Configurations drift. Certificates expire. Our maintenance programme catches these issues in a controlled window — not at 8am on a Monday when your team is trying to work.

We perform scheduled maintenance tasks during off-peak hours, with pre-approved change windows, so your business experiences minimal disruption and maximum uptime.

  • Scheduled monthly maintenance windows
  • OS and application patch deployment
  • Disk space and performance capacity management
  • SSL and software licence expiry monitoring
  • Log review and error remediation
  • Backup health checks and test restores
  • Firmware updates for network devices and printers
  • Antivirus definition updates and scan scheduling
IT maintenance work

When did you last have a scheduled maintenance window?

If the answer is never, let's talk. A small investment in prevention saves significantly on emergency response.

HomeServicesSecurity Operations

Security operations that detect and respond — not just alert.

The difference between a security event and a security incident is response time. Our Security Operations team monitors your environment 24/7, investigates alerts in real time and responds to threats before they cause damage.

Security Operations

What happens when a threat is detected?

Most security tools generate alerts. The challenge is knowing which alerts matter, investigating them quickly and taking the right action. Without a dedicated team, alerts pile up and real threats go unnoticed.

Our Security Operations service provides the people, tools and processes to close that gap — giving your business enterprise-grade threat detection and response at a fraction of the cost of building it in-house.

  • 24/7 SIEM (Security Information & Event Management)
  • Real-time alert investigation and triage
  • Threat hunting across your environment
  • Rapid incident containment and remediation
  • Root cause analysis and post-incident reporting
  • Monthly security posture reporting
  • Cyber insurance readiness documentation

HomeServicesEndpoint Protection

Protect every device in your organisation.

Endpoints — laptops, desktops, mobiles and tablets — are the primary target for cyber attacks. Our Endpoint Protection service deploys advanced EDR technology, enforces security policies and provides visibility across every device in your fleet.

Endpoint security
Endpoint Protection

Every device. Every user. Protected.

Traditional antivirus isn't enough. Modern threats require behavioural analysis, automated response and centralised visibility across your entire device fleet.

🛡️

EDR Deployment

Next-generation Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) deployed across all managed devices — detecting threats that traditional antivirus misses through behavioural analysis.

📱

Mobile Device Management

Manage and secure smartphones, tablets and laptops through MDM — enforcing encryption, remote wipe capability and application controls on every device.

🔄

Automated Patch Management

Unpatched software is the leading cause of breaches. We automate patching for OS and applications across your entire fleet, tested and deployed outside business hours.

🔒

USB & Media Control

Control what can be connected to your devices — blocking unauthorised USB storage, enforcing encryption on approved devices and preventing data exfiltration.

📊

Fleet Visibility & Reporting

A single dashboard showing the health, patch status and security posture of every managed device — with monthly reporting for management and audit purposes.

Automated Response

When a threat is detected, our EDR platform can automatically isolate the affected device, kill malicious processes and alert our team — minimising dwell time.

Know how many of your devices are unpatched right now?

Let us run a free endpoint health check. You might be surprised what we find.

HomeServicesServer Protection

Server protection and hardening for NZ businesses.

Your servers hold your most critical business data and run your most important applications. We harden, monitor and protect them — whether they're on-premises, in the cloud or in a hybrid environment.

Server room
Server Protection

Hardened from the first day.

Most servers are deployed with default settings that leave unnecessary services running, accounts unconfigured and security controls disabled. Hardening a server properly requires expertise and methodology.

OceanNET's server protection programme covers initial hardening, ongoing monitoring and regular security reviews — so your servers stay protected as your environment evolves.

  • Server hardening to CIS Benchmark standards
  • Unnecessary services and ports disabled
  • Privileged access management and admin account controls
  • Antivirus and anti-malware with real-time protection
  • Security event log monitoring and alerting
  • Patch management and update scheduling
  • Disk and performance capacity monitoring
  • Backup integration and recovery testing

When was your server last security-reviewed?

We'll run a hardening assessment and give you a plain-English report on what needs to be addressed.

HomeServicesBackup & Recovery

Backup is only useful if recovery works.

Many businesses discover their backups are broken or incomplete only when they need them most. OceanNET designs, implements and regularly tests backup and disaster recovery solutions — so when the worst happens, you recover quickly and completely.

RTO & RPO Defined
Backup & Disaster Recovery

The 3-2-1 rule. Applied properly.

Industry best practice is the 3-2-1 rule: 3 copies of your data, on 2 different media types, with 1 stored offsite. Most businesses don't meet this standard — and many don't test their backups regularly.

We design backup solutions tailored to your Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) — then test them regularly to make sure they actually work when you need them.

  • Backup strategy design and implementation
  • Cloud backup to secure NZ or Australian data centres
  • On-premises backup for fast local recovery
  • Offsite tape or cloud replication for disaster recovery
  • Ransomware-resistant immutable backup storage
  • Scheduled test restores with documented results
  • Recovery Time and Recovery Point Objective documentation
  • Disaster Recovery Plan creation and annual review

Has your backup been tested in the last 90 days?

If not — or if you're not sure — let us review it. We'll tell you honestly whether you're protected.

Cloud Solutions

The right cloud for your workload.

Not every workload belongs in the public cloud. We'll help you make the right decision — and if cloud is right for you, we'll do the migration properly.

🗺️ Cloud Strategy & Assessment

Before recommending a cloud platform or architecture, we assess your current environment, understand your business goals and identify which workloads are good cloud candidates — and which aren't.

  • Current state assessment and documentation
  • Workload suitability analysis
  • Total cost of ownership comparison
  • Platform recommendation (Azure / AWS / GCP)
  • Migration roadmap and timeline

🚀 Cloud Migration

Structured migration methodology that minimises risk and downtime. Whether it's a single application or an entire data centre, we follow a proven process from planning through to cutover.

  • Phased migration planning
  • Data migration and validation
  • DNS cutover and communication planning
  • Rollback procedure documentation
  • Post-migration performance validation

⚙️ Cloud Management & Optimisation

Moving to the cloud is the start, not the end. We manage your cloud environment on an ongoing basis — monitoring costs, optimising performance and ensuring security controls remain effective.

  • Monthly cloud cost reporting and optimisation
  • Performance monitoring and scaling
  • Security posture management
  • Patch and update management
  • Backup and disaster recovery testing

🔗 Hybrid Cloud

Many businesses need a hybrid approach — keeping some workloads on-premises while running others in the cloud. We design and manage hybrid environments that give you the benefits of both.

  • Azure Arc and hybrid identity management
  • Site-to-cloud VPN connectivity
  • Consistent security policies across environments
  • Unified monitoring and visibility
  • DR failover testing between on-prem and cloud

Not sure if the cloud is right for your business?

We'll give you an honest, technology-agnostic assessment — not a sales pitch for any particular platform.

🔌 Ingram Micro API Integration Guide

OceanNET Technology Shop — Test Pilot → Production Upgrade Path

🔐 Authentication

The Ingram Micro API uses OAuth 2.0 Client Credentials. Your backend server obtains a token then passes it with every API request.

POST /oauth/oauth30/token Host: api.ingrammicro.com:443 grant_type=client_credentials &client_id=YOUR_CLIENT_ID &client_secret=YOUR_SECRET Response → { "access_token": "..." }

📋 Required Headers

Every API call requires these four headers in addition to the Bearer token:

Authorization: Bearer {access_token} IM-CustomerNumber: YOUR_CUST_NUMBER IM-CountryCode: NZ IM-CorrelationID: {uuid-per-request} IM-SenderID: OceanNET

🛍️ Product Catalog Endpoints

🚀 Steps to Go Live

  1. Log in to the Ingram Micro Xvantage portal and generate your API Client ID and Secret
  2. Set up a lightweight backend proxy (Node.js or PHP) on your web host to securely hold credentials
  3. Replace mock product data in the shop with live calls to /v6/catalog
  4. Replace mock prices with live /v6/catalog/priceandavailability responses
  5. Connect the checkout form to /v6/orders to place real orders
  6. Set up webhooks for order status updates and stock changes

🔧 Backend Proxy Template

Never expose your API credentials in browser-side code. Use a server-side proxy:

// server.js (Node.js / Express) app.post('/api/shop/prices', async (req, res) => { const token = await getIMToken(); const data = await fetch( 'https://api.ingrammicro.com:443' + '/resellers/v6/catalog/priceandavailability', { method:'POST', headers: {{ 'Authorization': `Bearer ${{token}}`, 'IM-CustomerNumber': process.env.IM_CUSTOMER, 'IM-CountryCode': 'NZ', 'IM-CorrelationID': uuid() }}, body: JSON.stringify(req.body) } ); res.json(await data.json()); });
Your Ingram Micro account is already set up. OceanNET can build and deploy the backend proxy and live shop integration for you. Contact us to discuss →

Fibre Internet
How do I get started with OceanNET Family Fibre?

Getting started is straightforward. Here's the process from sign-up to being online.

Step 1: Check Your Address

First we verify fibre is available at your address. Most Auckland homes have Chorus fibre access. Contact us or check via the Chorus website.

Step 2: Choose Your Plan

Pick a plan that suits your household — Starter for basic browsing, up to Ultra for high-speed multi-device homes. All plans include unlimited data.

Step 3: Book Installation

We book a Chorus installation at a time that suits you. A technician connects the fibre to your home (usually 1–2 hours). Standard installation is free.

Step 4: Connect Your Router

Once the fibre ONT (small white box on your wall) is connected, you plug in your router and you're online. OceanNET routers come pre-configured.

💡 Keep the ONT plugged into power at all times — it needs to stay on for your internet to work.

Typical Timeframe

  • Standard installation: 5–10 working days
  • Complex installs (heritage homes, underground cable): may take longer

Fibre Internet
Why is my internet running slowly?

Most "slow internet" issues are actually Wi-Fi issues, not your broadband. Test by plugging directly into your router with an ethernet cable.

Common Causes of Slow Wi-Fi

  • Device is too far from the router — move closer or get a mesh extender
  • Too many devices streaming at once
  • Router needs a restart (unplug, wait 30 sec, plug back in)
  • Interference from other nearby Wi-Fi networks

Test Your Speed

Visit speedtest.net or fast.com. Run it on a device plugged directly into your router for accuracy.

💡 Quick fix: restart your router by unplugging it from power, waiting 30 seconds, and plugging back in. This resolves ~70% of slow speed issues.

If speed is significantly below your plan even on a wired connection, call us on 09 833 3426 — we can run a remote diagnostic.

Fibre Internet
What happens when the internet goes down?

Step 1: Restart Your Equipment

  1. Unplug your router from power
  2. Wait 60 seconds
  3. Plug it back in and wait 2–3 minutes to reconnect

Step 2: Check the ONT (Fibre Wall Box)

Look at the small white box where the fibre cable enters your home. It should have green lights. Red or no lights may indicate a fibre issue.

⚠️ If your internet is down, your VOIP home phone will also not work. Use a mobile phone to make calls during an outage.

Step 3: Check for Area Outages

Outages sometimes affect whole areas due to maintenance or damage. Check the Chorus outage page or call us on 09 833 3426.

Home VOIP
What is VOIP and how does it work?

VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol. It means your phone calls travel over your internet connection instead of old copper telephone wires.

The Simple Explanation

Just as you might video-call a family member over the internet, VOIP lets you make regular voice calls the same way. You still use a normal telephone handset — it just connects differently (through your router).

What Equipment Do I Need?

  • An active OceanNET fibre broadband plan
  • A VOIP adapter (we provide this — plugs into your router)
  • Your existing home telephone handset (no new phone needed)
⚠️ Critical: Because VOIP uses your internet, if your internet goes down, your phone stops working too. This is different from a traditional copper landline. Always keep a charged mobile phone as a backup.

What About 111 Emergency Calls?

VOIP phones can call 111 (Police, Fire, Ambulance). However, your location may not be automatically identified. Always clearly state your full address at the start of any 111 call.

Home VOIP
Can I keep my existing home phone number?

Yes — in most cases you can keep your existing number. This is called "number porting."

How Number Porting Works

  1. You request to keep your number when signing up
  2. OceanNET submits the porting request to your current provider
  3. During porting (3–5 business days) your old number continues working normally
  4. On the cutover date, your number transfers to OceanNET VOIP

Cost

Number porting costs a one-off fee of $20. This is optional — a free new local NZ number is included with your plan.

💡 Do not cancel your current phone service before porting is complete, or you may lose your number.

Business VOIP
How does the Yeastar P-Series VOIP system work?

OceanNET Business VOIP is built on the Yeastar P-Series — an enterprise-grade cloud phone system used by thousands of businesses worldwide.

What is the Yeastar P-Series?

It's a cloud-hosted PBX (Private Branch Exchange) — your entire phone system lives securely online, with no expensive hardware on-site. Always up to date, accessible from any device.

The Linkus App

Every user gets the Linkus UC app — available on mobile (iOS and Android), desktop (Windows/Mac), and web browser. Turn any device into a full business phone extension.

Key Features

  • HD calls on desk phones, mobiles and computers
  • Internal extension calling between staff (free)
  • IVR auto-attendant ("Press 1 for Sales...")
  • Call queues, ring groups and voicemail
  • Call recording (on Flex and Max plans)
💡 Use the Linkus app on your mobile when working away from the office — clients call your business number and it rings on your phone, anywhere.

Troubleshooting
My internet keeps dropping out — what should I do?

1. Check Your Router Position and Cables

  • Ensure your router is in a well-ventilated spot — overheating causes dropouts
  • Check all cables are firmly plugged in — a slightly loose ethernet cable causes intermittent issues

2. Restart Everything

Restart both your router AND your ONT. Unplug both, wait 60 seconds, plug the ONT back in first, wait 1 minute, then plug in the router.

3. Wi-Fi Interference

If only Wi-Fi devices drop out (not wired devices), the issue is likely Wi-Fi interference. Try changing your router's Wi-Fi channel in the router settings.

4. Note Patterns

Note when dropouts happen — same time every day? When someone uses the microwave? This helps OceanNET diagnose the cause more quickly.

5. Contact OceanNET

If dropouts persist, call us on 09 833 3426. We can monitor your connection remotely and identify the cause.

VOIP requires an active internet connection. If your internet is down, your phone will have no dial tone. Try loading a webpage to confirm.

The VOIP adapter is a small device connected between your router and your phone. Check it has power (green power light) and is connected to your router.

Step 3: Restart the Adapter

  1. Unplug the VOIP adapter from power
  2. Wait 30 seconds
  3. Plug it back in and wait 2 minutes

Step 4: Check the Phone Cable

Ensure the phone cable is firmly plugged into both your handset and the "Phone" port on the VOIP adapter.

Business Internet
What is the difference between business and residential fibre?

Both use the Chorus fibre network but differ in important ways:

Key Differences

  • Private IP Address: Business plans include a private IP — important for VPNs and business systems
  • Naked Fibre: Business fibre is data-only with no voice line included, typically giving better performance
  • Support Priority: Business customers get 24/7 priority support with faster response times
  • Contract Term: Business fibre is 24-month; residential is 12 or 24-month
  • Symmetrical Speeds: Business plans offer equal upload and download speeds — important for cloud apps, video calls and off-site backups
💡 If you run a business from home and need to access company systems remotely, a business-grade connection with a private IP is strongly recommended.
